KazTransOil, the national oil pipeline operator of Kazakhstan, has reported transporting 954,000 tons of oil from January through August 2024. This volume was moved via the port of Aktau towards the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, according to information provided by a KazTransOil source.
In August 2024, KazTransOil transported 117,000 tons of oil from the port of Aktau to the BTC pipeline. The company anticipates maintaining these transportation levels throughout the remainder of the year. The projected total for 2024 is up to 1.5mn tons of oil transported through Aktau in the direction of the BTC pipeline. This forecast aligns with the transportation schedule set by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, which is based on shipper applications.
As of the end of 2023, KazTransOil had utilized its Aktau facilities to load 3.4mn tons of oil into tankers, with 1.1mn tons allocated to the BTC route. In line with a directive from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev issued in 2022 to enhance oil transport through the Trans-Caspian corridor, KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) signed an agreement. This agreement facilitates the transportation of up to 1.5mn tons of oil annually from the Tengiz field to the BTC pipeline.
Additionally, during President Tokayev’s visit to Azerbaijan on March 11-12, an agreement was reached between KazMunayGas and SOCAR to increase the BTC pipeline’s annual transport capacity to 2.2mn tons.
