The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with financial support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), has successfully organized a practical training session for the State Hydrometeorological Service of Turkmenistan. This initiative, part of the “Developing a National Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan” (NAP) project, stresses the commitment to strengthening the country’s climate resilience.
Held at the State Hydrometeorological Service, the week-long training was conducted by UNDP international consultant Mustafa Arman. It targeted key specialists, including lead engineers and laboratory staff, to enhance their skills in monitoring, collecting, and analyzing climate data. This training aims to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts and long-term climate predictions, crucial for adapting to climate change impacts.
“Quality, timely, and accurate weather information and early warnings are vital for public preparedness and minimizing damage from natural disasters,” stated Maya Ashirova, UNDP/GCF NAP Project Manager.
Participants expressed their dedication to continually improving their capabilities to better serve the public. They emphasized that this training is a significant step towards enhancing meteorological services, reflecting the State Hydrometeorological Service’s ongoing commitment to excellence.
This marks the third practical training session organized by the UNDP NAP project in the past two years, aimed at bolstering the capacities of key national stakeholders in climate change adaptation planning.
