Turkmenistan is set to enhance its transport infrastructure with the construction of a new high-speed highway, the Serakhs-Mary-Serkhetabat. The private company Ojar Asia has signed a contract with the Eurasian branch of China’s Sinohydro Bureau for this project.

The planned highway will span approximately 450 kilometers and is expected to boost the country’s transport network, improving foreign trade conditions and facilitating the export of Turkmenistan’s natural resources. The project is estimated to cost over $2bn, with Sinohydro Bureau providing the bulk of the investment and Ojar Asia overseeing the construction.

This development is part of Turkmenistan’s broader strategy to enhance its transportation links and stimulate economic growth. The new highway will integrate into the country’s international East-West and North-South transport corridors, boosting transit and export opportunities.

The highway will adhere to the highest international standards, featuring an extensive 50-meter roadway with 8 lanes and advanced safety measures. Construction will utilize innovative technologies and materials, including asphalt concrete and synthetic surfaces, to ensure durability and quality.

The Serakhs-Mary-Serkhetabat highway represents a crucial step in diversifying Turkmenistan’s economy, traditionally reliant on hydrocarbon exports. By improving infrastructure, the project aims to enhance the country’s global trade connectivity and economic resilience.
