UNDP and Turkmenportal renew partnership to advance SDG in Turkmenistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan and Turkmenportal, a leading private media platform, have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 2024-2026, solidifying their commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country. The signing ceremony took place at the UN building in Ashgabat, marking the continuation of a successful collaboration.

The extended partnership builds on previous achievements to support Turkmenistan’s national development priorities. It seeks to leverage shared expertise and resources to enhance public awareness and foster engagement in areas critical to sustainable development.

Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating:

“This renewed partnership with Turkmenportal stresses the vital role of media in promoting the SDGs. Together, we aim to empower citizens, amplify key development messages, and inspire collective action for a sustainable future.”

The collaboration will concentrate on priority areas including:

  • Economic diversification: Supporting the creative economy and digital transformation.
  • Gender equality: Promoting women’s participation in digital technologies and enhancing their skills.
  • Climate change and disaster risk reduction: Advocating for sustainable natural resource management.

By emphasizing creativity and innovation, the partnership aims to unlock new opportunities in digital media and other sectors, fostering economic growth and empowering communities across Turkmenistan.

Guvanch Nurmyradov, General Director of “Turkmenportal,” expressed his commitment to the collaboration, saying:

“Partnering with UNDP is an important step for ‘Turkmenportal’ in supporting Turkmenistan’s development goals. This collaboration allows us to leverage our platform to raise awareness, engage the public, and contribute to the country’s progress.”

The renewed MOU prioritizes digital inclusion, particularly for women and girls, by promoting equal access to digital technologies and developing skills across all demographics. This focus aligns with global efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure that the benefits of technology are shared equitably.
