Kazakhstan debuts ATC simulator to transform air traffic control training

The cutting-edge simulator is designed to serve both new trainees and experienced controllers, helping to enhance their skills. It replicates air traffic operations, as well as ground situations at airports, with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) to create virtual reality simulations.

The system includes aeronautical charts and models of Kazakhstan’s airspace and airports, offering a comprehensive training experience tailored to the country’s unique aviation environment.

According to Kazaeronavigatsiya, this new simulator is the first of its kind in Central Asia, with no direct equivalents in the region. The introduction of this advanced technology will allow the Training Center to significantly increase its training capacity, doubling the number of controllers it can train annually.

In 2023, the center successfully trained 291 individuals using the simulator, with an additional 192 controllers completing training in the first nine months of 2024. The Training Center holds a prestigious ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Gold status, making it the only facility in Kazakhstan with this distinction.
