A reconstructed hydraulic unit has started operating at the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station

At the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station in Kyrgyzstan, after reconstruction, a hydraulic unit №4 was put into operation. The ceremonial event for its launch took place on December 30, reports the press service of OJSC «Electric Stations».

The renovation was aimed at improving the station’s capacity and efficiency. As a result of the update of the №4 hydraulic unit, the capacity of the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station increased by 20%.

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev took part in the launch of the hydraulic unit in an online format. Also present at the event were the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev, the General Director of OJSC «Electric Stations» Sultan Sadyrakunov and other officials.

Reconstruction of the №4 hydraulic unit began in March 2024. The modernization work was carried out by CNEEC. In 2025, it is planned to start reconstruction of the №3 hydraulic unit. After completion of all stages, the service life of the hydroelectric power station will increase by 25–30 years.

Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station, built in 1962, is the first hydroelectric power station in the Naryn region. Its reservoir is located in the city of Shamaldy-Sai, Jalal-Abad region and has a total volume of 52.5 million m³. Before reconstruction, the hydroelectric power station had a capacity of 180 MW, provided by four hydraulic units with a capacity of 45 MW each. Full-scale reconstruction of the station is being carried out for the first time in more than 60 years of operation.
