The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to build a new reservoir and canals in the Kyzylorda region. Reconstruction of two waterworks and four hydraulic structures will also be carried out. This was stated by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov at a meeting with representatives of the region’s water sector.

The head of the department reported on the work done by the ministry in the main areas. Today, in the Kyzylorda region, a project is being implemented to reconstruct water intake stations with the installation of an automated water metering system on five canals with a total length of about 232 km. In addition, design and estimate documentation is being developed for the automation of 16 main and inter-farm channels with a length of more than 2,600 km.

Work continues on the implementation of water-saving systems. So, last year, thanks to water-saving technologies, farmers in the Kyzylorda region saved about 200 million cubic meters of water.

«As a result of bilateral and trilateral negotiations with neighboring countries and decisions made in 2024, more than 15 billion cubic meters of water entered the Shardara reservoir. Of these, 4.8 billion cubic meters were collected during the irrigation period, and 10.3 billion cubic meters – outside the irrigation period. 2.6 billion cubic meters of water were sent to the Northern Aral Sea through the «Karateren» gauging station.
