Turkmenistan and Pakistan discuss TAPI project and TAP route developments

Negotiations between Turkmenistan and Pakistan were held on July 23, in Islamabad, led by Rashid Meredov, Chairman of the Turkmen-Pakistani Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chairman of the Pakistani-Turkmen Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Turkmenportal reported.

The discussions centered on expanding trade and economic partnerships between the two nations. Key topics included the progress and implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and the development of power lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.

The TAPI pipeline aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. The meeting addressed advancements in this project and associated infrastructure developments. Additionally, the discussions covered the laying of power lines and fiber-optic cables to improve connectivity and communication along the TAP route.

Political consultations between the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Pakistan also took place, focusing on global issues such as terrorism and cybercrime. The discussions emphasized the need for joint efforts to address these challenges.

The talks included discussions on increasing trade volumes, refining the legal framework for economic activities, and advancing joint projects in energy and transport sectors. The importance of enhancing cultural and educational exchanges was also noted.
