A meeting was held in Dushanbe between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavkizod Zavka Amin and the head of the representative office of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the republic Ko Sakamoto. The parties focused on deepening partnership and attracting investment in infrastructure projects that are strategically important for Tajikistan.
The minister emphasized that sustainable economic development, expanding international cooperation and attracting foreign investment are priority areas of the policy pursued under the leadership of President Emomali Rahmon. ADB, in turn, is positioned as one of Tajikistan’s key and proven partners in the international arena.
The Asian Development Bank has already invested about $2.6 billion in the economy of Tajikistan, and the bank’s current portfolio of projects in the country is estimated at $947 million. These figures clearly demonstrate the scale and significance of cooperation for both sides.
Particular attention during the negotiations was paid to the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station – a flagship project that, according to officials, is of strategic importance for the energy independence and future economic prosperity of Tajikistan. The Minister of Economic Development and Trade appealed to ADB to step up its participation in financing this ambitious project, inviting the bank to consider allocating $500 million to support it.
In addition to the Rogun hydroelectric power station, the parties discussed the potential participation of ADB in the development and financing of two other important programs: the Medium-Term Development Program of Tajikistan for 2026-2030 and the Export Development Program for the same period. The implementation of these programs is designed to ensure long-term economic stability, diversification of the economy and strengthening of Tajikistan’s position in the world market.
The head of the ADB representative office, Ko Sakamoto, in turn, expressed support for the initiatives proposed by the Tajik side and highly assessed the country’s current macroeconomic indicators. He emphasized that the results achieved form a solid foundation for further progress and sustainable development of Tajikistan. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed mutual readiness to continue close cooperation and implement their plans.
