Afghanistan exports saffron and ferula assa-foetida worth $77.5mn in six months 

Promising proposals have been put forward by Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to jointly cultivate agricultural products using new approaches and advanced technologies, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The initiative includes growing cotton, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and other crops on Afghanistan’s fertile lands with the aim of increasing productivity and generating sustainable sources of income.

These proposals were discussed during a recent high-level meeting in Tashkent between the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, and Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Ataullah Umari. 

The talks were attended by key agricultural and government representatives from both countries, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshidjon Abduzukhurov, Deputy Director of Uzbekistan’s Agro-Industry Development Agency Otajon Pirmonov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Afghanistan Mulla Abdulhaq Hamkor, and Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Emirates Mawlawi Mujeeb ur-Rehman Umar Ohunzoda.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to expanding bilateral cooperation and launching new projects in agriculture and beyond. Minister Abdurakhmonov emphasized the importance of consistent collaboration and the benefits of sharing expertise in modern farming methods, irrigation system improvements, and retraining of specialists.

Talks also covered cooperation in livestock breeding, development of horticulture, rice cultivation, and seed production based on international standards. Uzbekistan expressed readiness to support the systematic introduction of agrotechnical practices and skills development in Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.

The Afghan delegation welcomed these proposals and expressed strong interest in strengthening ties based on mutual respect and long-term partnership.

The meeting concluded in a spirit of mutual friendship, with both sides exchanging commemorative gifts to mark the occasion and reinforce their shared commitment to deepening cooperation.
