Uzbekistan added almost 200 MW of small-scale solar capacity in the first three months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Energy.

Between January and March, solar panels with a total capacity of 197.9 MW were installed at 10,117 locations across the country. Businesses led the way, accounting for 113 MW of capacity across more than 2,000 sites.

Households followed, with 6,400 families installing over 56 MW. Meanwhile, 1,455 social facilities added 25.9 MW, and 182 apartment buildings contributed 2.79 MW to the new solar output.

These newly installed panels generated more than 60mn kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity during the period. The Ministry said this saved around 15mn cubic meters of natural gas and helped avoid the emission of 17,000 tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere.

The update comes as part of Uzbekistan’s broader push toward renewable energy. Last week, the Ministry reported that hydroelectric power plants generated over 1.7bn kWh in the first quarter, bringing the total green energy output — including solar and wind — to over 3.7bn kWh. Currently, 11 solar and 3 wind power plants are operating across 10 regions of the country, with a total installed capacity of 4.06 gigawatts (GW).

The government aims to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels by expanding investments in renewables, especially in solar and wind power.
