A new protocol on the operation of Sangtuda HPP-1 was signed

The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Jumaa and the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergei Tsivilev signed a protocol on introducing amendments and additions to the agreement between the government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the operation of the hydroelectric power station «Sangtuda-1» dated July 30, 2009.

As reported in the press center of the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan, the document was signed in Moscow as part of the working visit of Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda to the Russian Federation. «The document regulates a number of important issues related to the activities of the hydroelectric power station «Sangtuda-1′′», — the press center clarified.

Open Joint Stock Company «Sangtuda HPP-1» — a joint venture of Russia and Tajikistan, was formed on February 16, 2005 with the aim of completing the construction and further operation of a hydroelectric power station on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan.

The share of companies of the Russian Federation in the authorized capital of OJSC «Sangtuda HPP-1» is 75% minus 1 share, the share of Tajikistan — 25% plus 1 share.

The first hydraulic unit of the hydroelectric power station was put into operation in January 2008. The hydroelectric power station «Sangtuda-1» with a design capacity of 670 MW, including 4 hydroelectric units (each with a capacity of 167.5 MW), is one of the largest operating hydroelectric power plants and provides about 12% of the total electricity production in the country.

The station is located in the Dangara district of the Khatlon region, 110 km south of the capital of the republic — Dushanbe. It is part of the zone of the South Tajik territorial production complex with centers in the cities of Kurgan-Tube and Dangara.
