Turkmenistan and TURKSOY enhance cultural cooperation

Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held a meeting with Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), to discuss current and future cooperation between Turkmenistan and TURKSOY. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, focused on enhancing collaborative efforts in promoting the rich cultural heritage of Turkic-speaking peoples.

During the discussions, both parties identified key areas of cooperation and highlighted the significance of 2024 as a milestone year for Turkmenistan within the Turkic-speaking world. This year marks the celebration of several landmark events under the TURKSOY framework, including the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of the Great Poet and Thinker of the Turkic World – Magtymguly Fragi” and the 300th anniversary of his birth. Additionally, the ancient Turkmen city of Anau has been designated as the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2024.

The meeting placed special emphasis on the organization of joint events to promote the legacy of Magtymguly Fragi and to highlight the cultural significance of Anau. These initiatives are expected to foster greater understanding and appreciation of Turkmenistan’s cultural contributions within the broader Turkic-speaking community.

Both Meredov and Raev expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration between Turkmenistan and TURKSOY, underscoring their shared commitment to preserving, studying, and disseminating the rich cultural heritage of Turkic-speaking peoples globally.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue strengthening ties and working closely on future cultural projects that will further solidify Turkmenistan’s role within the TURKSOY community.
