Group of lawyers in Osh has to sue government and private institutions to seek conditions for people with disabilities
A group of lawyers on September 27 spoke at a press conference in AKIpress-Osh about problems in creation of conditions for people with disabilities.
Lawyers Sardorbek Abduhalilov, Maksatbek Jorokulov, Nurislam Raimjanov and a citizen with disability Bektur Ashimov raised problems that people with disabilities face.
The goal of the lawyers is to control over execution and implementation of the law on protection of rights of people with disabilities.
“We carry out works in Osh, Jalal-Abad and Bishkek. There are more than 200,000 people with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan. Most buildings were built in the Soviet period. Therefore, no conditions were created for disabled people. However, in 2018, a law on special conditions for people with disabilities was adopted,” Abduhalilov said.
A resident of Jalal-Abad town, teacher in the university, who has a first degree disability, Beknur Ashimov together with his lawyer Raimjanov participate in proceedings. They sue to achieve creation of conditions for people with disabilities in 2-3 facilities.
“Today all facilities of the Jalal-Abad town do not comply with requirements on creation of conditions for people with disabilities, for example, absence of ramps.
Court proceedings take time, therefore, the relevant state bodies, agencies could make conditions for disables people by default not forcing us to sue and deal with them, the lawyers said.
