Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan to partake in conference of parties to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan plans to participate in the 29th conference of parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be held on November 11-22 in Baku (Azerbaijan), the press service of the Ministry reported.
On November 18, thematic websites will be organized on human capital management, health, children, youth and education.
The Ministry noted that the it supports the organization of activities within the framework of “Climate Week”, which will be held in Kyrgyzstan on October 7-11. Main issues include assessing climate risks to health, vulnerability of the health system and its adaptation to climate change.
Climate change increases the risk of infectious diseases, water quality and food security, and increases the incidence of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Women, children and the elderly are vulnerable groups.
The Ministry of Health takes the following measures:
– monitors climate threats and develops a national health-care adaptation plan;
– programmes are developed to inform the public about the impact of climate change on health and how to mitigate it;
– works with development partners to promote the implementation of climate change adaptation programmes.
