At the moment, companies are being selected for the construction of hydraulic units at Kambar-Ata HPP-2. The Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev told reporters about this.

He noted that work is currently underway on the construction of the second hydraulic unit of the Kambar-Ata HPP-2 with a capacity of 120 MW. The first started operation in 2010 and also has a capacity of 120 MW. The second hydraulic unit is planned to be put into operation in 2025, Ibraev noted.

A competition has already been held for the construction of the second and third hydraulic units. 17 companies took part in it. So far, seven main ones have been identified, including Kyrgyz, Chinese, Russian and Turkish.

The total capacity of the facility after the installation of three hydraulic units will reach 360 MW.

However, the hydroelectric power lines will not be able to carry about 30 MW: the authorities may sell this electricity for mining purposes. There is no equipment at the station yet; it can only be installed after the installation of the second and third hydraulic units. Taalaibek Ibraev said: at the moment there is only a verbal agreement on cooperation with one of the companies.

To fully commission the hydraulic units of Kambar-Ata HPP-2, you will need to purchase an additional transformer and an open switchgear (with a capacity of 500 kV).
