Kyrgyzstan to receive 17 million euros for modernizing water supply and sewerage systems in Talas, Kemin and Shopokov
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the conclusion to the agreements between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The agreements included the project “Water Sector Sustainability Enhancement Program” (Shopokov Subproject, Talas Subproject – Phase II, Kemin Subproject), as well as the investment grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Shareholder Special Fund.
The Water Resources Service has been selected as the state body responsible for the implementation of these agreements.
The conclusion of the Cabinet of Ministers has been sent to the Parliament.
The projects aim to provide centralized safe drinking water to more than 19,000 people in the cities of Shopokov (9,500 people), Kemin (9,700 people) and to provide access to a modernized sewerage system to more than 19,000 people in Talas city.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provides 17 million euros for the implementation of the project “Water Sector Sustainability Enhancement Program”. This sum includes 7.6 million euros as a grant of the Special Shareholder Fund, 7.6 million euros as a loan, and 1.8 million euros as a grant for technical cooperation.
