Seven hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan are awaiting large-scale modernization

The company «Electric power plants» announces the start of a large-scale modernization and maintenance program for key hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Kyrgyzstan. The annual plan approved by the company includes major and current repairs, as well as maintenance work at the country’s seven largest hydroelectric power stations.

The purpose of the set of measures is not only to update outdated equipment and increase the reliability of power supply, but also to ensure uninterrupted operation of all stations. At the Toktogul hydroelectric power station, a major overhaul of hydraulic units, modernization of equipment and preventive maintenance are planned. The Kurpsai HPP will undergo a major overhaul, update the control system and modernize transformer equipment. The Tash-Kumyr hydroelectric power station will undergo routine repairs and preventive maintenance. At the Shamaldy-Sayskaya hydroelectric power station, comprehensive repairs will be carried out, critical components will be modernized and regular diagnostics will be provided. At the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station, from February to November 2025, the hydraulic unit №3 will be reconstructed, which will increase the efficiency of the station. Kambarata HPP-2 is awaiting a major overhaul of key elements, and comprehensive maintenance and routine repairs will be carried out at the At-Bashi HPP.

The company «Electric Stations» notes that the work schedule is drawn up taking into account seasonal fluctuations in the load on the energy system. In addition, the company plans – to wash reservoirs to remove silt deposits, which will improve the efficiency of hydroelectric power plants.

These measures are designed to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply to Kyrgyzstan’s consumers, as well as lay the foundation for the further development of the country’s energy sector.
