This year, five small hydroelectric power stations will be built in Kyrgyzstan

Five small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 64 MW are planned to be put into operation in Kyrgyzstan in 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev in an interview with the news agency «Kabar».

According to the minister, we are talking about projects for which all the necessary documents have already been received and construction work has begun. He also added that interest in small hydropower remains high — many entrepreneurs are at the stage of preparing feasibility studies, developing projects and negotiating with banks on financing issues.

Let us recall that according to the Ministry of Energy, in 2024, eight small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 49 MW were put into operation in Kyrgyzstan.

Previously, the minister stated that 90% of small hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan are being built at the expense of local investors.
