Kyrgyzstan plans to take out a loan of $50 million from the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) for a period of 20 years, of which 5 years will be a grace period, and the remaining 15 years will be a payment period with interest. This was stated by Member of Parliament Dastan Bekeshev.
According to him, the interest rate will be 1% per annum, but at the very beginning 0.5% of the commission, that is, 250 thousand dollars, will be withheld from the loan amount.
«We will only finance in the part that we will exempt from taxes, other fees, and so on», — the deputy explained.
The loan is not intended to increase energy capacity, but for the construction of a surface discharge at Kambar-Ata HPP-2. As Bekeshev emphasized, the project is aimed at strengthening the dam and ensuring the safe operation of the structure: «A loan will have to be taken in order to strengthen the dam and operate it reliably and safely».
