A delegation of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh from the parliamentary group «Mekenchil», as part of an off-site meeting, visited the site of the future grandiose construction of a hydroelectric power station «Kambar-Ata 1». Parliamentarians were presented with the key parameters of the project: the installed capacity of the new hydroelectric power station will reach 1,860 megawatts. Annual power generation is projected at an impressive 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours. These figures indicate that «Kambar-Ata 1» in its production capabilities will significantly exceed the existing Toktogul hydroelectric power station, which today is the basis of the energy system of Kyrgyzstan.
According to preliminary calculations, to ensure such capacity, a dam with a height of 256 meters – one of the highest in the world for such structures will be built. The accumulated volume of water in the reservoir will exceed 5.4 billion cubic meters.
During the working trip, the deputies also got acquainted with the current activities of the already functioning hydroelectric power station «Kambar-Ata 2». Since the beginning of the year, this station has contributed to the country’s energy balance, generating almost 293 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. At the time of the visit, its reservoir contained a water supply of about 21 million cubic meters.
In addition to the facilities on the Naryn River, the program of the on-site meeting included a visit to the production sites of OJSC «Electric Stations» in the city of Kara-Kul. This gave deputies the opportunity to get a comprehensive understanding of the state of affairs in the energy sector and discuss ways for its further modernization and development. Parliamentarians expressed a common opinion on the need for accelerated development of the hydropower industry in Kyrgyzstan.
