A giant stator weighing 132 tons for the hydraulic unit №3 of the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station was successfully installed in the design position – shaft of the unit. This complex operation was the next step in updating a strategically important energy facility in Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic.
The successful completion of this stage opens the way to the final phase of modernization of the hydraulic unit №3. Energy workers plan to put the updated unit into operation in November 2025. After modernization, the power of this unit alone will increase by 9 megawatts.
The project for the reconstruction of hydraulic units of the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station is the result of cooperation between the Kyrgyz side, represented by OJSC «Electric Stations», and the Chinese company China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC).
The Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station, commissioned back in 1962, is undergoing the first comprehensive renovation in its long history. The reconstruction program is scheduled in stages: thus, in 2024, the modernization of the hydraulic unit №4 was successfully completed. The current year, 2025, is dedicated to the unit №3, which is planned to be launched in November. An ambitious parallel update of two hydraulic units – №1 and №2 is planned for 2026.
The result of all these efforts will be a significant increase in the installed capacity of the station – from the current 189 MW to 216 MW.
