Kazakhstan has advanced to 24th place in the 2024 United Nations (UN) E-Government Development Index, an improvement of four positions from the previous report. The ranking assesses the e-government performance of 193 UN member states, using data collected from 2022 to 2023.
Kazakhstan’s new position places it ahead of countries such as Uruguay (25th), Switzerland (26th), Türkiye (27th), France (34th), China (35th), and Canada (47th). The country continues to strengthen its standing in the global digital sphere, reflecting its ongoing efforts to enhance public administration and digital services.
In a statement released on September 18 by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, the achievement was attributed to several factors, including the improvement of e-services, human capital, and telecommunications infrastructure. Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry, emphasized that the ranking is based on the country’s steady progress in these areas, adding that:

Kazakhstan performed particularly well in the Online Services Index (OSI), ranking 10th globally alongside South Korea, Denmark, and Estonia, surpassing countries like China, Germany, and Australia. This reflects the country’s efforts to enhance the quality and accessibility of its digital services.
Within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Kazakhstan leads the region, ranking ahead of Russia (43rd), Armenia (48th), Uzbekistan (63rd), and Azerbaijan (74th). Additionally, it maintains its position as the highest-ranking landlocked country in the index.
Kazakhstan made significant strides in telecommunications infrastructure, improving its ranking by 23 positions to 41st place. The report attributes this progress to increased investments in digital infrastructure and the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), which have enhanced governance and public services.
