The Kazakh Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, in partnership with Zhasyl Damu, announced the initiation of a project to construct a waste recycling plant and a techno-eco park. The project, revealed by the ministry’s press service on July 24, aims to enhance the country’s waste management infrastructure.
The new facility aims to sort and process various types of waste. It will handle 120,000 tons of waste annually, including bulky waste, and will process 80,000 tons of organic waste each year. The project is expected to generate 70 new jobs, contributing to local employment and economic growth.
The government has identified 94 investment projects in the waste management sector, funded through utilization payments. These projects have been developed in consultation with local government bodies (akimats) and the business community. The goal is to boost municipal waste recycling capacity from 1 mn tons to 2.2 mn tons per year.
This initiative represents a major advancement in Kazakhstan’s waste management efforts. By improving recycling infrastructure and increasing processing capacities, the project aims to promote environmental sustainability and economic development, the ministry believes.
