Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on the development of technical specifications for automating water metering of the Syrdarya River, reports the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Previously, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan identified 10 areas in the Syrdarya River basin where automated water metering systems will be installed. Five of them are located on the territory of Kazakhstan, another five, respectively, on the territory of Uzbekistan.
Today the parties are negotiating with international financial organizations on financing the project. The general terms of reference for the project are being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
«Note that only the first 10 sites have been identified. In general, we plan to automate all major hydraulic posts and ensure complete transparency of water metering. We are actively promoting this issue in negotiations with our Kyrgyz and Tajik colleagues», Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Aldamzharov said.
