President Mirziyoyev congratulates Trump, expresses hope for stronger US-Uzbekistan partnership

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his official assumption of office as the President of the United States. 

In his congratulatory letter, Mirziyoyev expressed optimism about the United States’ continued growth and global leadership during Trump’s presidency.

The Uzbek leader noted his confidence that the United States would see further advancements in its international prestige, economic strength, and influence under President Trump’s leadership.

Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev emphasized, deeply values the United States’ consistent support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan.

The letter also highlighted Uzbekistan’s aspirations for stronger ties between the two nations. 

“I would like to see a new era of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States established during your first term as President and our multifaceted relations raised to a high level,” Mirziyoyev wrote. 

He reiterated Uzbekistan’s interest in expanding long-term cooperation across bilateral and multilateral platforms.

In a gesture aimed at fostering closer ties, President Mirziyoyev extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Uzbekistan, signaling a commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic collaboration.

In 2024, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the United States reached $881.7mn, up from $765.1mn in 2023. As of August 2024, trade between Uzbekistan and the United States has shown significant growth, reflecting strengthened economic ties between the two nations. The total trade volume reached $613.6mn, marking a 64.6% increase from $372.3mn during the same period in 2023, and a 100.9% rise from $305.7mn in 2022. 

In June 2024, the U.S. recorded a positive trade balance with Uzbekistan, exporting $17.2mn and importing $3.05mn, resulting in a surplus of $14.1mn. However, this represented a decline in exports and imports compared to June 2023, with exports falling from $20.9mn and imports decreasing from $7.73mn—a drop of 17.9% and 60.6%, respectively.

Additionally, the two countries have also advanced their collaboration in the critical minerals sector, stressing a mutual commitment to sustainable resource management. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 16 highlights efforts to attract private sector investment in Uzbekistan’s mining industry while prioritizing environmental sustainability and governance standards.
