A reservoir will be built in the Zhambyl region and canals will be repaired

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within the framework of cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank, plans to build a new reservoir in the Zhambyl region. It is also planned to repair 76 irrigation canals and one existing reservoir.

Of these, in the Baizaksky district – 18 channels, in the Talas district – 1 channel, in the Sarysu district – 11 channels, in the Merken district – 1 channel, in the Shusky district – 45 channels. In the Kordai region, the reservoir «Karakoniz» will be reconstructed. A reservoir «Akmola» will be built in the Bayzak region.

The reconstruction and construction of reservoirs will improve the water supply to 9,300 hectares of land, and the repair of 76 irrigation canals will improve the water supply to 24.7 thousand hectares of sown areas in the region, the ministry notes.

«In addition, this year it is planned to repair sections of seven canals with a length of 67 km in the region. Last year, repair work was carried out on 69 km of canals. This will improve the supply of irrigation water to 13 thousand hectares of sown areas»,– said Kudaibergen Korganbaev, director of the department for the development of water management facilities of the Ministry of Water Resources of Kazakhstan.
