Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan, reported a 12.9% increase in revenue for 1H24, reaching $586.2mn. The company’s performance was marked by a rise in passenger traffic and continued fleet expansion, as confirmed by the airline’s press release on August 5.
Passenger numbers saw a 14.6% increase during the reporting period, with the airline carrying 4mn passengers. The average load factor remained stable at 82%, signalling effective capacity utilisation.
Air Astana President and CEO Peter Foster commented on the results: “Passenger numbers have reached unprecedented levels, and current booking trends for the third quarter indicate readiness for the peak summer travel season.”
The airline also expanded its fleet, increasing the number of aircraft from 49 at the end of 2023 to 54 by mid-2024. Plans are underway to grow the fleet further, targeting 59 aircraft by the end of the year, exceeding the initial goal of 56.
In April 2024, Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan participated in humanitarian efforts across Kazakhstan, providing aid valued at KZT 1bn (approximately $2mn) to those affected by floods. The airlines facilitated the transport of over 75 tons of food and essential supplies, offered free transportation for volunteers, and operated 41 additional emergency flights from western Kazakhstan.
In recognition of its service excellence, Air Astana was honoured at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024, securing the title of Best Airline in Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for the 12th consecutive year. The airline also received the award for Best Airline Staff Service in the region for the eighth time. FlyArystan was named Best Low-Cost Carrier in Central Asia and the CIS for the second time.
