The information disseminated on social networks and instant messengers about the presence of a threat at the Bartogay reservoir in the Almaty region is not true. This statement was made by the akimat of the Enbekshikazakh region.
«Information about the threat at the Bartogai reservoir has not been confirmed, there is no threat to populated areas», — says the publication posted on the akimat’s Instagram page.
It is explained that to eliminate risks, employees «Kazgiprovodkhoz» are conducting an additional inspection of the dam.
«The Emergency Situations Department, the district akimat and specialists from the LHC named after D. Kunaev are on duty at the scene. The situation is under control, constant monitoring is underway», — the post notes.
On Saturday evening, messages spread on social networks and instant messengers that a crack had appeared at the dam of the Bartogai reservoir during the day. The regional emergency department alerted rescuers, and the department sent them to the scene. The authorities are allegedly considering the issue of evacuating residents of nearby settlements.
The Bartogay reservoir is located in the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region on the Chilik River, 10 kilometers from the village of Asysaga. Its basin, the size of the two islands of Gibraltar, contains about 320 million cubic meters of water, which is used to irrigate 150 thousand hectares of land at the foot of Ile Alatau.
The reservoir appeared in the 1970s, when, due to the expansion of Almaty and the need for new water resources, it was decided «to degenerate» the Bartogay tract. This body of water accumulates melt water in winter to be used for watering fields in the summer.
The structure was built and commissioned in 1985. The length of the dam at the top is about 330 meters, and the height — is about 60 meters.
Let us remind you that earlier the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported that 4 new reservoirs will be built in Kazakhstan and 4 existing reservoirs will be reconstructed. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct and overhaul 115 canals.
