Ministers of Energy and Water Resources from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan convened in Tashkent to agree on operating modes for their water and energy systems for the summer season.

The parties discussed coordinated measures to ensure the stable functioning of interconnected networks across the region. They finalized schedules for system operations and reviewed ongoing joint projects, including the Kambarata HPP-1 construction initiative.

The sides also addressed the water and energy balance in the Syrdarya River basin and emphasized the importance of pre-season planning to account for current hydrological conditions and regional needs.

A protocol was signed at the end of the meeting, confirming the agreed operating modes and outlining the procedure for water allocation during the growing season. Further coordination events are scheduled in the coming days.

“Such discussions and agreements before each growing season allow us to take into account the current hydrological situation and the countries’ needs for water and energy resources,” stated Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov.

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan noted that this agreement marks another step in the long-standing cooperation between the three countries to ensure sustainable water use and reliable energy supplies across Central Asia.
