Kyrgyzstan has provided Kazakhstan with 534.3 mn cubic meters of water during the current irrigation season, surpassing the initial target. The delivery includes 394.3 mn cubic meters through the Talas River, which exceeds the planned volume by 14.3 mn cubic meters.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kyrgyzstan reported that the water was supplied through the Chu-Talas transboundary rivers. Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov indicated that two meetings of the Chu-Talas Water Management Commission were held this year as part of ongoing negotiations with Kyrgyzstan.
Under the agreements, Kazakhstan was set to receive 180 mn cubic meters from the Chu River and 380 mn cubic meters from the Talas River for the irrigation season. According to Nurzhigitov, the water supply has proceeded as scheduled, with the Talas River delivery exceeding the planned amount.
As of now, Kazakhstan has received 140 mn cubic meters of water through the Chu River, following the schedule agreed upon by the respective water agencies of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Tajikistan has also contributed to Kazakhstan’s water needs by supplying 488.6 mn cubic meters via the Dostyk interstate canal. Additionally, Uzbekistan is anticipated to send approximately 500 mn cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan by the end of the irrigation season.
