Tajikistan will prepare for the Russian Federation a list of projects for the construction of new hydroelectric power stations

Russia and Tajikistan agreed to prepare a list of promising joint projects in the electric power industry, including the construction of hydroelectric power stations and solar power plants. This was reported to TASS by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Daler Juma on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum «Energoprom».

«Sergei Evgenievich (Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of Russia) and I agreed to create a round table literally in the near future to determine [promising for implementation] projects. Our annual potential [for generating electricity at hydroelectric power plants] is estimated at 527 billion kWh, but we use only 5%. Hydropower has historically been the main focus of bilateral cooperation», he said.

«There is experience, and there are several options that we are going to discuss soon. We are also discussing the development of other renewable energy sources, especially solar energy», — the minister added.

He also said that Russia and Tajikistan have resolved the issue of debt for electricity to the Russian Federation, and a corresponding agreement will be signed in the near future.

The main debt to Russia concerns a joint Russian-Tajik enterprise «Sangtuda HPP-1». The share of the Russian Federation in the authorized capital is 75% minus one share, Tajikistan — 25% plus one share.

The only buyer of electricity produced by Sangtuda HPP-1 is the state energy holding «Barki Tojik».
