According to the head of the European Commission, the countries of the region have significant resources of wind, solar, water and geothermal energy, which makes Central Asia a promising platform for the development of sustainable energy.

«This is why the European Union is investing in clean energy throughout the region», — von der Leyen emphasized.

Among the strategic projects that the Chairman of the European Commission drew attention to were the Rogun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan and the Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power station in Kyrgyzstan.

«These power plants will be able to produce enough electricity not only to meet domestic needs, but also for export to other Central Asian countries», she said.

Von der Leyen emphasized that the development of hydropower in the region will contribute to the provision of energy to strategic industries, including the processing of raw materials and sustainable transport links.

«They will also produce pure hydrogen suitable for export and increase energy independence, improve trade links and contribute to the fight against climate change», — said the President of the European Commission, summing up her speech.
