The National Olympic Committees of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of sports.
The document was signed on April 6 in Dushanbe on the margins of the Regional Forum of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for West and Central Asia.
The document was reportedly inked by Zulfiqor Gulahmadzoda, the Deputy Head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Tajikistan, and Mehdi Alinejad, the Secretary-General of Iran’s NOC.
An official source within Tajikistan’s NOC says the signing of the cooperation document reflects the country’s efforts to boost cooperation, including in the field of sports.
Iran’s Nour News and Iran Press report that the document can help both Persian-culture countries improve the quality of sports activities.
The document reportedly emphasizes cooperation in the fields of coaching, refereeing, and joint sports camps.
In line with boosting Tehran-Dushanbe ties, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian traveled to Tajikistan in January 2025 and met his counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

The two-day second leg of the Olympic Council of Asia-Olympic Solidarity Regional Forum 2025, which brought together delegates from 18 National Olympic Committees from West and Central Asia concluded in Dushanbe on April 7.
The main focus of the meeting was the discussion of the Olympic Solidarity Plan for 2025–2028, preparations for the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain (scheduled for October 2025), the 20th Asian Games in Japan, and the Asian Indoor Games in Saudi Arabia, both set for 2026.
Participants also discussed the region’s involvement in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Ahead of the forum, Dushanbe hosted a mass sports run, the “OCA Fun Run,” aimed at promoting Olympic values and encouraging youth participation in sports.
The OCA, in cooperation with the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity, conducted the region In forum for East, South and Southeast Asian NOCs in Bhutan on April 2-3.
