June 2025 is set to bring a true summer heatwave to Tajikistan. According to meteorologists, temperatures across most of the country will be up to two degrees Celsius above the usual climate norm. At the same time, some regions may experience rain showers, thunderstorms, and dust storms, the country’s Hydrometeorology Agency told Asia-Plus.
Dushanbe, Khatlon, and RRP valleys: heat above normal, rain, and dust
In the capital, Khatlon province, and valleys in districts subordinate to the center (RRP), the average monthly temperature is forecasted to range between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius — one to two degrees higher than usual.
Daytime temperatures will soar to as high as 42 degrees, with some southern areas reaching up to 45 degrees. Night temperatures will vary from 15 to 27 degrees.
Pre-mountain areas will be slightly cooler, with daytime highs up to 36 degrees and nighttime lows between 14 and 24 degrees.
While precipitation is expected to be generally low, some areas may see rainfall above average: Dushanbe and republican subordinate districts — 10 to 20 millimeters; Khatlon — 1 to 12 millimeters; and foothills — up to 22 millimeters.
Short showers, thunderstorms, and strengthening westerly winds with gusts up to 22 meters per second are also possible. On windy days, dust haze may occur.
Sughd province: hot with thunderstorms
Sughd is forecasted to have a hot month. Valley areas will see temperatures between 26 and 29 degrees, while mountainous zones will experience 13 to 18 degrees.
Nighttime lows will drop to 15 degrees in valleys and down to 5 degrees in the mountains. Daytime highs could reach up to 40 degrees in valleys and 30 degrees in the mountains.
Precipitation is expected to be below normal overall, but localized heavy rains and thunderstorms may occur in the mountains. Forecasters also warn of possible squalls with winds reaching 22 meters per second.
RRP mountains and western part of GBAO: hot days, cool nights
These areas will have an average monthly temperature of 17 to 22 degrees. Night temperatures will range from 7 to 17 degrees, while daytime highs will be between 21 and 32 degrees, with some days climbing to 36 degrees.
Precipitation is expected to be within the norm: up to 55 millimeters in the RRP mountains and up to 20 millimeters in the western part of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, or GBAO.
Thunderstorms and strong winds with gusts up to 22 meters per second are also forecasted.
Eastern GBAO: night frosts and cool days
The coolest weather in Tajikistan will continue in eastern GBAO. Average monthly temperatures will range from 6 to 10 degrees.
Nighttime lows may drop between -3 and 7 degrees, while daytime highs will be between 7 and 18 degrees, with occasional days reaching up to 22 degrees.
Precipitation will remain near normal — between 8 and 16 millimeters, possibly higher in some locations. Strong winds up to 20 meters per second, snowstorms, and reduced visibility are also expected.
In summary, June in Tajikistan promises to be genuinely hot, especially in southern and valley areas. However, meteorologists warn that some days could bring brief rain showers, thunderstorms, strong gusts, and dust storms.
Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take precautions during periods of extreme heat and strong winds.
