Tajikistan’s national airline, Tajik Air, has announced the launch of a new weekly flight route connecting the capital city Dushanbe with Vanj district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, or GBAO.  The new service officially began on June 23 and was publicized via the company’s official Facebook page.

According to the airline, the flight reduces travel time between Dushanbe and Vanj to just 50 minutes. Flights will operate every Friday using the AN-28 aircraft.

Flight Schedule: the departure time for the Dushanbe-Vanj flight is 08:00 am and the departure time for the Vanj-Dushanbe flight is 09:30 am

The cost of a one-way ticket is 750.00 somonis.  Tickets can be booked at the airline’s office in Dushanbe, located at 32/1 Mirzo Mastongulov Street, or by calling +992 900130443 / +992 110000012.

This expansion follows Tajik Air’s resumption of flights between Dushanbe and GBAO’s capital, Khorog, in October of last year, using the same aircraft model.  Those flights are scheduled three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays—subject to weather conditions.

Tickets for the Dushanbe–Khorog air route, priced at 900 somonis, are sold exclusively for the next available flight at the Tajik Air ticket office near Dushanbe International Airport.

The national airline, Tajik Air, has not been in operation for already years as it does not have aircraft suitable for this.  Tajik Air has its main hub at the Dushanbe airport, and it retains a secondary focus point at the Khujand airport.  

The company started operations on September 3, 1924 as Tajik Aviation. Its first route was Bukhara to Dushanbe, served by Junkers F-13 aircraft.  Until 2008, Tajik Air had an absolute monopoly in Tajikistan’s air transport, owning all planes, airports, and airport and flight services.  As a result of restructuring, Tajik Air was split up into several separate companies.
