Tajikistan expressed its readiness to actively develop joint projects with Azerbaijan in the strategically important field of hydropower. This proposal, as reported to the Report news agency by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, was made at the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. in particular, the Tajik side put forward an initiative to consider the possibility of involving Azerbaijani companies in the construction of small and medium-sized hydroelectric power stations in Tajikistan. The implementation of such projects is considered as a significant contribution of both countries to the development of clean energy and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The successful implementation of these plans is expected to have a positive impact on «green energy» policy-making throughout the Central Asian region, contributing to environmental sustainability and energy security.

The potential for deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan is assessed as very significant, and this is not limited only to the hydropower sector. Recent summit meetings – between the leaders of the two states also confirm the seriousness of their intentions. Tajikistan expresses interest in implementing joint projects also in the oil and gas industry, developing logistics corridors, strengthening heavy industry and actively promoting environmental initiatives. Both countries demonstrate commitment to the international climate agenda and make active proposals in this area.

An important aspect is Tajikistan’s upcoming presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2025. As part of the approved concept of its chairmanship, Dushanbe intends to focus efforts on combating climate change, forming effective national policies in the field of «green economy» and achieving sustainable development goals. This creates an additional platform for Tajik-Azerbaijani interaction in the environmental and energy spheres.
