The Dushanbe city government has pledged to resolve the ongoing issues of water outages and low water pressure in several districts of the capital by the end of July.  This was announced by Bahrom Saidzoda, head of the Dushanbe Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprise, during a news conference on July 25.

According to Saidzoda, the disruptions are due to the installation and connection of new water pipelines.  “The issue may be fully resolved by the end of this month,” he stated.

The upgrades are being financed by the Asian Development Bank, and since 2021, water pipelines in the Shohmansour district have been undergoing a comprehensive overhaul.

Saidzoda noted that the work is now nearly complete.

Residents of certain areas — including DOK (woodworking plant) area and Ayni Street in Shohmansour — have previously voiced complaints about the lack of drinking water and low water pressure.

Bakhtiyor Sharifi, First Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe, confirmed the issue and mentioned that a working group had visited the affected neighborhoods.  He pointed out that some residents are misusing drinking water for non-essential purposes.

“People are using drinking water to wash carpets and cars.  As a result, there’s no water in the upper parts of the area,” Sharifi said.

He also noted that the city plans to pilot a water billing system as part of efforts to regulate usage and improve supply management.
