Uzbekistan’s president honors 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi in Ashgabat

President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, delivered an address at the International Forum titled “Interrelation of Times and Civilizations – Basis of Peace and Development,” held in Ashgabat on October 11. The event was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the esteemed poet and philosopher Magtymguly Fragi.

In his speech, President Mirziyoyev extended his heartfelt gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for their warm hospitality and the exceptional organization of the forum. He praised Turkmenistan’s leadership for elevating literature and enlightenment to the level of state policy, using it as a platform for peaceful international dialogue in these challenging times.

The Uzbek president emphasized the profound cultural and spiritual ties between the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples, highlighting how such events serve to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and deepen mutual understanding. He noted the enduring influence of Magtymguly Fragi, whose works continue to inspire and promote universal values such as peace, kindness, and justice.

“To understand the soul and heart of the Turkmen people, comprehend the origins of their qualities such as courage, bravery and loyalty to a friend, one should immerse themselves in the spiritual world of Magtymguly,” said President Mirziyoyev, acknowledging the philosopher’s pivotal role in world literature.

The president highlighted the shared admiration for Magtymguly Fragi in Uzbekistan, noting his studies at the Shergazi-khan madrassah in Khiva and his respect for Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi. He mentioned various initiatives in Uzbekistan to honor Fragi’s legacy, including cultural events, monuments, and a joint Uzbek-Turkmen film about the poet.

Mirziyoyev concluded his address by praising Turkmenistan’s visionary policies and its promotion of peace and stability, including the upcoming International Year of Peace and Trust, set for next year. He expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to support Turkmenistan’s initiatives and hoped for continued prosperity for both nations.

“May peace and tranquility reign in our countries, and our friendship be everlasting,” the Uzbek President stated, reflecting the shared aspirations of the region’s peoples.

The International Forum serves as a tribute not only to the great philosopher Magtymguly Fragi but also to the timeless values of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect.
