President Berdimuhamedov welcomed Minister Bayraktar and expressed confidence that his visit would contribute to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Turkey. Bayraktar conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and emphasized the importance of expanding the partnership, particularly in the energy sector.

The meeting covered several critical topics, including the transportation of Turkmen gas to Turkey and Europe. This included the potential construction of a power plant on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea. President Berdimuhamedov reiterated Turkmenistan’s readiness to continue cooperation with Turkey in the energy sector, highlighting the long-standing ties and mutual trust between the two countries.

Involvement of Turkish Companies

The discussion also addressed the participation of Turkish companies in various sectors such as fuel and energy, ore production, transport and communications, agriculture, and investment. President Berdimuhamedov noted Turkey’s leading position in the foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan and identified substantial opportunities for the development of bilateral and regional relations.

Legal Foundations for Cooperation

The meeting highlighted the significance of documents signed in March, such as the “Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the Field of Hydrocarbon Resources” and the “Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation on the Development of Partnership in the Field of Natural Gas.” These documents provide a crucial legal basis for expanding bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

One of the key prospects discussed was the construction of a combined cycle power plant on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea. This project aims to facilitate the export of Turkmen electricity to neighboring countries via the Caspian Sea and to Turkey and other nations. President Berdimuhamedov expressed his willingness to consider proposals and support Turkish initiatives in this direction.
