Turkmenistan’s gas supergiant Galkynysh can produce up to 200bn cubic meters annually

Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov held a working meeting with representatives of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to discuss major projects in the oil and gas sector. Officials from KazMunaiGas and QazaqGaz also participated in the discussions.

The meeting focused on cooperation in strategically important initiatives, including the expansion of the Shymkent Oil Refinery, which aims to boost Kazakhstan’s oil refining capacity. The parties also discussed the Urea project, a key development for the petrochemical sector, and the construction of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline to enhance the country’s gas transportation network.

Additionally, discussions covered the extension of contracts for MangistauMunaiGas and Urikhtau, as well as issues related to the supply and transportation of natural gas.

“The implementation of these projects is of strategic importance for the further development of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry. We highly value cooperation with Chinese partners and are confident that through joint efforts we will achieve our goals,” said Vice Minister Akkenzhenov.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to continue collaboration, conduct further technical consultations, and coordinate next steps to implement mutually beneficial projects.

CNPC has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1997, engaging in upstream oil and gas investments, refining, pipeline construction and operation, petroleum product marketing, and engineering services in oil and gas fields. Its key investment projects in the country include the Aktobe, RK, MMG, Kashagan, Northern Buzachi, ADM, and KAM projects. 

Additionally, CNPC is a contracting partner for the construction and operation of major pipelines, including the Kazakhstan-China oil and gas pipelines, the southern route of the Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline, and the northwest oil pipeline. The corporation also provides services in geophysical exploration, drilling, well testing, and engineering construction.
