UNICEF, Turkmenistan launch robotics club in Arkadag for STEAM education

To celebrate Knowledge Day and the start of the new school year, UNICEF Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has inaugurated a new Robotics Club at Secondary School No. 1 in Arkadag City. The initiative aims to ignite student interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) through interactive and hands-on learning experiences. The Robotics Club is envisioned as a model to be replicated in other schools across the country.

The Robotics Club is equipped to accommodate 8-12 students at a time, offering the essential tools and resources needed to foster creativity and enhance practical skills. Recognizing the growing importance of STEAM education, the Ministry of Education has been actively promoting the establishment of robotics clubs nationwide, responding to the rising interest among students, parents, and educators.

Globally, STEAM and robotics education have seen a surge in popularity as they provide essential skills for today’s job market. Even young children, aged 4-5, are beginning to explore these subjects, with a particular focus on encouraging girls to participate in fields traditionally dominated by males. UNICEF’s efforts in Europe and Central Asia reflect this focus, aiming to equip children with the necessary 21st-century skills.

“The launch of the Robotics Club marks an important step in empowering young minds with the skills they need for the future. By introducing students to STEAM education, we are helping to build a generation that is innovative, confident, and ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow,” said Alexandru Nartea, Deputy Representative of UNICEF Turkmenistan.

UNICEF is committed to supporting the Ministry of Education in fostering a culture of innovation and learning. The launch of this Robotics Club underscores the importance of STEAM education in developing self-discipline, teamwork, time management, language skills, and self-esteem among students.
