The Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights in Uzbekistan has classified Knauf as a dominant company in the gypsum board market. This determination follows a market analysis revealing that Knauf Gips Buxoro holds a market share exceeding 40%.
Under the revised Article 13 of the law on competition, which came into effect last year, a company is considered dominant if it has over a 40% market share and annual revenues exceeding around UZS 10.2bn ($811,000). This legal framework is designed to regulate market practices and ensure competition.
As a dominant market entity, Knauf is required to comply with antimonopoly regulations. These include prohibitions against setting monopolistically high or low prices, creating artificial product shortages, and imposing discriminatory conditions. Additionally, Knauf must avoid practices that could hinder market entry for competitors or restrict product sales.
This designation is part of the Committee’s broader effort to manage market competition and protect consumer rights. In 2024, the Committee has recognized six companies as dominant, including Ferganaazot, Indorama Kokand Chemicals and Fertilizers, and several entities under Uzbekistan Temir Yollari.
