Sarvar Ashurov has been removed from his position as Assistant Prime Minister and head of the Prime Minister’s reception office, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s press secretary, Bekzod Hidoyatov. The dismissal, reportedly linked to the recent assassination of Komil Allamjonov, has triggered changes within government ranks.
Sarvar Ashurov’s departure was confirmed through a Cabinet of Ministers’ decision. Shuhrat Ibragimov, formerly the deputy head of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, has been appointed as his replacement.
In addition to Sarvar Ashurov, his brother, Alijon Ashurov, was dismissed from his role as head of the internal security department at the State Security Service. Sources suggest that Alijon Ashurov obstructed the investigation into the assassination of Allamjonov, which led to his removal.
Other high-ranking officials, including Abdusalam Azizov, chairman of the State Security Service, and two senior figures in the Ministry of Internal Affairs—namely, the head of the Criminal Investigation Service and the first deputy head of the Tashkent City Police Department—have also been dismissed in connection with the case.
On October 26, former head of the Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Komil Allamjonov, was attacked in Qibray district. Gunmen fired multiple shots at his Range Rover before fleeing.
A criminal case has been launched under Article 25.97 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code (attempted murder). Authorities have made progress in the investigation, apprehending a suspect on October 27 and three others the following day.
Allamjonov had stepped down from his position in the Presidential Administration on September 30, 2024, announcing plans to focus on private sector endeavors.
