The number of hydroelectric power stations in Uzbekistan has doubled in seven years

The number of hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Uzbekistan has increased from 36 to 77 over seven years, said Surayo Pulatova, adviser to the chairman of JSC «Uzbekhydroenergo». Their total capacity increased from 1.8 thousand to 2.2 thousand MW.

She added that at the beginning of this year, 13 similar stations had been modernized in the republic.

Every day, hydroelectric power stations generate an average of 20 million kWh of electricity, which is 9-11% of the republic’s total daily electricity demand.

From January 1 to January 9, 8.2 billion kWh of electricity was produced. The figure increased by 20% compared to the same period in 2024.

Let us remind you that as part of the implementation of the «Uzbekistan-2030» Strategy, Uzbekistan plans to build and commission hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 3.3 GW.
