At the cascade of the Tupalang reservoir (Surkhandarya region of the Republic of Uzbekistan), a small hydroelectric power station «Zarchob-2A» was put into operation, the regional khokimiyat reported.
With a design capacity of 3 MW, the power plant will generate 13.3 million kWh of electricity per year. This will be enough to supply electricity to six thousand households in the region. The launch of a small hydroelectric power station will save up to four million cubic meters annually. m of natural gas.
The total cost of building the power plant was $3.4 million. The small hydroelectric power station «Zarchob-1A» was launched in August 2024. Currently, construction of a power plant «Zarchob-3» with a 16 MW hydraulic unit continues at the cascade of hydroelectric power stations.
The regional khokimiyat said that by the end of 2025, the capacity of all power plants of the Tupalanga cascade of hydroelectric power stations will reach 300 MW. Over the past eight years, hydropower production in the region has increased 20-fold.
