CERR analyzes Uzbekistan’s economic development in 2022

As of February 1, 2025, 56,300 industrial enterprises are operating in Uzbekistan, marking a sharp decline from the 68,700 recorded in 2024, according to the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan.

Despite the reduction of nearly 12,400 enterprises, the country’s industrial output for January reached UZS 55.8 trillion ($4.3bn), an increase from UZS 44.6 trillion ($3.5bn) in the same period of 2024.

In January 2025, the largest contributors to Uzbekistan’s industrial output were Tashkent city (18.2%), Navoi (23.3%), and Tashkent region (14.8%), followed by Andijan (6.0%), Fergana (4.8%), and Samarkand (4.6%) regions. Compared to January 2024, overall industrial production in the country grew, driven by enterprises in Namangan (110.8%), Khorezm (110.7%), Navoi (110.3%), and Tashkent city (110.2%).

Natural gas production continued its downward trend, with 3.875bn cubic meters produced in January, compared to 3.994bn cubic meters in January 2024. Electricity generation also fell, reaching 7.253bn kWh, down from 7.576bn kWh in the same period last year.

Gasoline and diesel production also saw declines. Only 99 tons of gasoline were produced in January 2025, compared to 124.6 tons in January 2024. Diesel production suffered an even sharper drop, falling to 33.2 tons from 50.2 tons a year earlier.

In addition, passenger car production also decreased in January, with 14,968 vehicles manufactured, down from 15,654 units in January 2024. However, production of the Chevrolet Cobalt model surged by 68%, with 5,660 units produced.
