Uzbekistan attracted $35bn in foreign investments and exported goods worth $27bn in 2024. Preparations are also underway for the Tashkent Investment Forum, which will be held in a new format, according to the presidential press service.
On March 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted a solemn ceremony to receive the credentials of newly appointed ambassadors to Uzbekistan. Tamer Fathi from the Arab Republic of Egypt, Pergabriele Papadia de Bottini from Italy, Duyshonkul Chotonov from the Kyrgyz Republic, Alexander Ogorodnikov from Belarus, David Kotaria from Georgia, and Ufuk Ulutas from Turkey were officially welcomed as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary.
During the ceremony, President Mirziyoyev congratulated the ambassadors on the beginning of their diplomatic missions and highlighted the importance of strengthening mutual support between friendly nations in the face of growing global challenges. He emphasized that Uzbekistan’s open and pragmatic foreign policy is focused on fostering partnerships with countries, international organizations, and global financial institutions.
The president noted that Central Asia is becoming a region of good neighborliness, trust, and integration, with Uzbekistan playing a key role in this process. This year, Uzbekistan is chairing the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia and preparing for a historic summit in Tashkent. Additionally, the country will host the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit in April and the second meeting of “Central Asia – Gulf Arab States” in May.
Highlighting Uzbekistan’s growing influence, President Mirziyoyev pointed to the adoption of 11 resolutions at the United Nations, the country’s role in hosting the 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, and its upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2027.
The president also expressed confidence in the country’s ability to achieve its goals, including enhancing infrastructure and building an “economy of the future,” within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy.
“Our reforms aim to safeguard the interests of every citizen, boost household incomes, build an “economy of the future” with modern infrastructure, and create a competitive, investor-friendly business environment. We have sufficient potential and opportunities, and most importantly, strong aspiration and political will, to implement the ambitious goals and plans set within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy,” head of the state voiced.
The newly appointed ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and pledged to use their expertise to actively promote cooperation with Uzbekistan in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, trade, and tourism.
President Mirziyoyev concluded by wishing the ambassadors success in their diplomatic missions and urged them to strengthen partnerships and engage with private businesses to further enhance Uzbekistan’s international ties.
