Construction of the second hydroelectric power station of the Naryn cascade in Uzbekistan has started

In the Namangan region of Uzbekistan, construction of the second hydroelectric power station (HPP-2) on the Naryn River has started. The project is being implemented within the framework of the renewable energy development program and is the first example in the country of completely national financing — all work is carried out at the expense of the company «Uzbekhydroenergo». This was reported by the company’s press service.

The construction of HPP-2 is part of a large-scale project to create a cascade of six hydroelectric power plants, each of which will have an installed capacity of 38 megawatts. In addition, the launch of a cascade of stations will save up to 277 million cubic meters of natural gas annually, which is important from the point of view of increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Simultaneously with HPP-2, construction of the first station of the cascade — HPP-1 continues.

The project is seen as one of the key elements of Uzbekistan’s strategy to transition to sustainable energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The project is being implemented by a joint-stock company «Uzbekhydroenergo», and the entire cycle of work, from design to commissioning, is carried out by the company. Particular attention is paid to the localization of production: the project uses basic technological equipment, in particular hydraulic units produced at enterprises in Uzbekistan.
