Five new micro-hydroelectric power stations were launched in Karakalpakstan

In the Republic of Karakalpakstan, five new microhydroelectric power plants were launched, built at the expense of JSC «Uzbekhydroenergo»’s own funds. The projects were implemented as part of the implementation of the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan «On additional measures to develop a network of microhydroelectric power plants in the regions of the republic» dated March 28, 2025. New energy facilities are designed to provide electricity and contribute to the socio-economic development of local communities, the press service of the enterprise reports.

Three micro-hydroelectric power stations were put into operation in the Nukus region. One of the stations with a capacity of 15 kW, located on the Bozatov Canal on the territory of the Makhalla citizens’ gathering «Akterek», will generate about 85 thousand kWh of electricity per year for the needs of the local population. Two more micro-hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 30 kW were launched on the Turtkul canal in the village «Kyzyl uy». Their combined annual output is estimated at 175 thousand kWh.

In the Khojeyli region, two micro-hydroelectric power stations began operating at the spillway structure of the Suenli canal in the village «Samankul». The capacity of each of them is 50 kW, and the total average annual electricity generation for the project will reach 580 thousand kWh. Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan F. Ermanov and other officials took part in the launch ceremonies.

An important feature of the project is the high level of localization. All key units and necessary equipment for hydraulic structures are produced at the UzHydroPower plant, which is part of JSC «Uzbekhydroenergo».

All launched micro-hydroelectric power stations have been transferred to the balance of local mahallas. Funds received from the sale of generated electricity will be directly used to finance projects for the socio-economic development of these territories, improve infrastructure and improve the well-being of residents.

The implementation of these projects also serves as a clear example for the private sector, the press service notes. The state invites entrepreneurs interested in the development of «green» energy to participate in the construction of new micro-hydroelectric power plants on the terms of public-private partnership, creating new business opportunities and strengthening the energy independence of the regions.
